Our History

Brief History of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church

1869-Present

Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1869, thanks to the efforts of brothers Sandy and Isaac McMillan, along with other community members who provided land and constructed the original building using timber from the nearby forest. As the congregation grew, many were inspired by the early ministers to enhance their lives through education, pursuing high school and college.

A Foundation for Education

In its early years, Pleasant Grove served as a school for local children, operating a one-room facility situated in a nearby building on the church grounds. Around 1945, the existing Tent Hall was built in partnership with the United Order of Tents and Pleasant Grove.

Resilience and Growth

After a severe storm rendered the original church building unsafe for worship, the dedicated men of the congregation constructed a new church at the current site. Over the years, Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church has flourished both physically and spiritually, providing a sanctuary for its members and the community to worship God in spirit and truth. The church is actively involved in outreach programs, including the Women’s Home and Foreign Missionary, the General State Baptist Convention, and the Union of Union Association.
